I sold my Canon camera gear. This is a big deal. I’ve been shooting Canon bodies since 1997, the same year I married my wife, got my first real job, and started dropping money on rolls and rolls of film.

The photos I shot in 1997 were terrible, but there were a lot of them and they kept getting better. As the years rolled on, classes were taken, books were read, and thousands more photos were shot. I was a digital hold out, I honestly though film would win out. I was naive and very wrong, obviously.

My first digital camera was a Rebel, it sucked and was a serious downgrade. I shot fewer shots with that, it wasn’t inspiring, wasn’t fun to use. I quickly dropped some major cash on a Canon 5d. This thing rekindled my love of shooting. I carried it everywhere, then the 7d came out and I coveted that autofocus, so I bought it right as it was released. It was around this time that my photo business took off. The mix of having the right tools, developing the technical skills, and feeling very creative peaked at just the right time. I was making a lot of money doing something I really loved. Then, a sad thing happened. Shooting photos became my job, not my passion.

I’ve lived in that place, high technical skill but lacking passion for a few years now. Sure, my photos have improved, I’ve got a lot of images on walls around this city, mine included, but I just felt so far from being one with my tools. They were heavy, full of many features I just didn’t need (video and a million other unnecessary selling points), and I hated to carry them around. The iPhone and Instagram became the fun camera… Until I ordered some prints from the iPhone. Terrible.

I knew I needed a shot in the arm. Being an artist who feels held back because of their tools sucks. I wanted to shoot film all the time because a rangefinder type camera felt right in my hands, inspired me to shoot more, but the cost of film and processing is just to great. Along comes Fuji. Yeah, the same Fuji that makes all my favorite films.

I made the switch. I sold my Canon gear and I’m all in with the Fuji gear. After several great shoots, I’m proud to be shooting my art, weddings, portraits, cityscapes, and most importantly, my family and life with these unobtrusive and film inspired digital cameras.

I finally found what I love. I’m finally feeling inspired again. I’m finally carrying a camera everyday that doesn’t leave me with a sore back.

Fuji, welcome into my home. You already feel like family.
